Upstate Palmetto Mini Storage FAQ's

FAQ's

How long are your storage leases?

Rental Agreements are month-to-month, with no long-term commitment.  The minimum rental agreement is 30 days.  The rental term begins on the first of each month and lasts the entire month. Your full rental payment is due on the first.  From time to time we do offer special discounts for longer term leases.  Please call today or check our website for additional information.

Do I need to provide my own lock?

Upstate Palmetto Mini Storage is equipped with door latches that will only accept "cylinder locks".  These are the safest style locks in the industry as bolt cutters cannot cut them.  Vending machines are usually equipped with these style locks.  We will provide a new lock and key for a one-time fee at move in.  The lock is yours to keep when you move out!

How can I make a payment:

Many customers prefer our automatic credit card payment option. When you sign up for auto charge, we will charge your credit card at the beginning of each month saving you the trouble of mailing in a check. Other payment options include making a payment on our website by logging into your account, calling us and making payment over the phone, mailing a check, paying in person at the office. The choice is yours!

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa®, MasterCard®, and Discover® over the phone and here on our website. To make your payment online, Login and choose Make a Payment.  We also accept check payments by mail, please mail it to the address on rental agreement  and reference your unit number on the check.  If you prefer to make payment through your bank's bill payment service, please mail to address on rental agreement and reference your space number in the payment.  You may also schedule appointment at storage facility during business hours to arrange for cash or check payment in person.

When are payments due?

Payments are due on the 1st of the month. Late fees do apply if not paid on time, please contact us if you are late on your bill in order to avoid unit being overlocked.

Do you offer payment reminders?

Yes, Payment Reminders are automatically sent by email and text (SMS) message.  If you prefer to have alerts disabled, please contact us.

What happens if my payment is late?

Upstate Palmetto Mini Storage follows S.C. state laws governing fees for late payments and liens on severely delinquent accounts.  Customers have until close of business on the 6th day of the month before a late fee is assessed. A late fee is assessed on the 7th day of the month and unit access is denied. An additional late fee will be applied by the 14th of the month if payment has still not been received.  Should payment not be made for a continuous 50 day period, the owner may enforce its lien.  The occupant will be considered in default from the day payment was first due.

What is a storage auction?

Auctions are a legal means to clear items from a space when a customer has not made their contractual rental payments; each is conducted according to local and state laws. However, auctions are a last resort and something we would rather not do. It is in the best interest of Upstate Palmetto Mini Storage and the delinquent customer to come to a settlement and avoid the heartache and expense of conducting an auction of the items in the space. If you find that you are severely past-due, please stay in contact with us so we can resolve the matter quickly and avoid this process.

Do I need insurance?

Yes, it is in everyone's best interest that our customers carry insurance. Just like an apartment complex, Upstate Palmetto Mini Storage insures our buildings and grounds and our customers insure the items they put into storage. We currently do not offer insurance coverage for customers, but recommend that customers obtain their own insurance coverage.

Do I have to give a notice to vacate my unit?

Yes, we require a Vacate Notice in writing. You may submit this notice on the same day that you clear out your space and remove your lock. This is very important - a lock indicates you are still occupying the unit and your Rental Agreement will be renewed and your account charged. The law prohibits us from removing your lock without special consent from you. Please see Move Out section of our website for more information and the complete the Move Out form.

I paid for a full month and need to move out sooner than I thought.  Will I get a refund?

If you have made advance payments on your account and need to move out before you anticipated, we will refund your pre-paid rent (in full month increments, or any unused days prior to the 15th of the month).   For example, if you paid for November and will move out November 16th, we will not refund 15 days of November. However, if you paid for November and notify us by November 1st that you will vacate on November 14th, we will refund your payment for the 17 days of November.  Refunds are sent by mail - please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.
